QMIC and Kahramaa Collaborate to Provide Info about Electric Charging Stations to Wain Users

Nov 25, 2021

The Qatar Mobility Innovations Center (QMIC) in collaboration with Kahramaa represented by the National Program for Conservation and Energy Efficiency (Tarsheed) introduced a new addition to the leading location services mobile platform in Qatar- Wain, focusing on displaying important and relevant information that is of interest to Electric Vehicle owners and users in Qatar.

In this newly added micro-app, users can see a map of all existing locations of operational electric charging stations which were installed and operated by the National Program for Conservation and Energy Efficiency (Tarsheed). More than 20 stations had been added to Wain so far. Through this micro-app, users will be able to see a map for all the current electrical charging stations. When clicking on any icon, various useful and relevant information will show up for users about charger type, AC or DC, as well as the capacity of each charging stations in kWs. This way, electric vehicle drivers will be comfortable knowing which stations are applicable to their vehicle and plan their trips accordingly. Furthermore, using Wain’s rich navigation and alerting capabilities, users can seamlessly navigate to any charging station and  receive relevant alerts in the future.

HE Eng. Essa Hilal Al-Kuwari, the President of Kahramaa commented, “QMIC and Kahramaa represented in Tarsheed will work together to update the information about the locations of charging stations and we are happy for this opportunity to collaborate and provide smart services and deliver useful information to tens of thousands of Wain users in the State of Qatar. This collaboration falls in line with national sustainability efforts according to 2030 vision  and in support of Kahramaa’s initiative to install more than 100 electrical charging stations by 2022 which in turn will help in minimizing harmful carbon emissions based on Qatar 2030 vision and Qatar climate change strategy which Kahramaa commits to both to achieve sustainability in the State of Qatar through Tarsheed national program”.

Dr. Adnan Abu-Dayya, Executive Director and CEO of QMIC commented, “We are excited to partner with Kahramaa to make it easier for all users in Qatar to access relevant location-based info about the rapidly expanding electric charging infrastructure in Qatar. Given the large base of Wain users in Qatar coupled with our commitment to keep expanding Wain services and content, electric car users can rely on Wain to optimize and enrich their experience on the roads in Qatar. This collaboration is a first step towards having Wain play an increasingly bigger role in supporting Qatar’s sustainability objectives through smart mobility services”.

Eng. Abdul Aziz Ahmad Al-Hamadi, KAHRAMAA’s Manager of Conservation and Energy Efficiency Department commented:” Kahramaa, through “Tarsheed” is currently issuing a tender to build an intelligent platform for charging electrical cars to ensure efficiency in operation and maintenance, serving all customers, connecting them to the network, and following up on buying and selling services through that platform in cooperation with the Smart Qatar Program “Tasmu””.

QMIC, through its rich portfolio of mobility platforms including Wain, is committed to play a central role in the transformation of road infrastructure to the next generation of intelligent mobility, which is why this collaboration can prove to be highly fruitful for all involved stakeholders.

This Electric Charging micro-app represents the newest addition to Wain’s expanding set of micro-apps and follows the introduction of the Cycling Routes microapp few weeks ago.
