QMIC and QIC Announce the Launch of How’s My Driving? App

Doha, Dec. 15th 2015: Qatar Mobility Innovations Center (QMIC) and Qatar Insurance Company (QIC), Qatar’s leading insurer held a press conference yesterday at QIC’s headquarters in Doha to jointly announce their new smart, innovative Road Safety solution, How’s My Driving?

The newly launched mobile app allows users to assess and improve their driving performance, which can subsequently translate into changes in their car insurance premiums.

Users are now able to monitor their driving behavior and score, share their results on social media, and compete with other drivers for the Safest Driver ranking, showing a gamification aspect of the app. How’s My Driving has a friendly user-interface, optimized for local and regional markets, and is available in both Arabic and English languages. The app is currently available in iTunes stores, and will be ported to Android devices at a later stage.

Besides the aforemetioned elements of the app, the intentions are very strong to take this solution to the next level, as QIC intends to introduce behavior-based insurance pricing, so that safe drivers can enjoy lower premiums.

Mr. Salem Al-Mannai, Deputy Group President & CEO- MENA Region commented, “We are very proud to introduce this app in Qatar today, as it marks the beginning of a new era for Qatar Insurance Company and the way motor insurance premiums are calculated. This app will help drivers realize how safe their driving is and help identify areas where they would need to improve. As more drivers start using the app, we will be able to determine how to enhance it for future releases, at later stages. By using the app, public would have a significant role to play in creating a successful new culture of safe driving in the country, as every user’s participation would make a difference”.

The app is envisioned to add richness to its ranking system by offering value added services and incentives (including insurance discounts) that reward safe driving, in future enhanced releases. This aspires to motivate users to drive safer on roads and continuously monitor their driving behavior, which in the long run can have a major affect on Road Safety. QMIC has been working hard to achieve its digital solutions strategy for tackling Road Safety in Qatar. QIC’s support in partnering for this solution today is one of the major steps needed to introduce a Pay How You Drive culture in the country, which is inline with QMIC’s efforts to create an eco-system of Road Safety technologies and apps and deliver on its recently announced Digital Innovations Strategy for Road Safety: Road Map to Zero.

Dr. Adnan Abu-Dayya, Executive Director (CEO) of QMIC said, “As the national leader in Road Safety technologies and applications, we are very eager to enrich our existing partnership with Qatar Insurance Company, the largest national insurance provider in Qatar, by announcing this new innovative solution, to hopefully put a dent in the escalating number of car crashes in the country. How’s My Driving is a simple, yet innovative, and easy to use solution that addresses multiple needs for both consumers and enterprises. We are happy to see more national and governmental entities cooperate with QMIC on adopting locally-engineered solutions, which serve Qatar’s Vision 2030, especially towards realizing its crucial strategy for Road Safety. ”

Earlier this month, at the 24th World ITMA Congress, QMIC also announced another innovation for Road Safety: the Salamtek Enterprise solution that tackles the needs of enterprises who are looking to manage and monitor phone usage of their drivers, in addition to a simple vehicle tracking feature that serves their business needs and operations. QIC was one of the earliest adopters for this solution, with plans to offer it to enterprises that can benefit from the Road Safety capabilities and business efficiency features provided in it. These efforts are an important and positive step in transforming QMIC’s Digital Road Safety Innovations Strategy: Roadmap to Zero into reality, where the country reaches its ultimate goal of zero fatalities due to road accidents.
