Doha: March 13th, 2017: The Qatar Mobility Innovations Center (QMIC) at the Qatar Science and Technology Park has been recognized by The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MoTC) as the Best Cloud Service Provider of the Year 2016. The award, which was announced during the closing ceremony at QITCOM 2017, recognizes QMIC’s achievement as the best service provider of intelligent mobility and IoT platforms and services delivered in the cloud. The Qatar IT Business Awards of MoTC are considered one of the most prestigious achievements for local technology innovators and service providers. The award ceremony was attended by several government and business leaders including HE the Minister of Transport and Communications Jassim Seif Ahmed al-Sulaiti and HE the Minister of Economy and Commerce Sheikh Ahmed bin Jassim bin Mohamed al-Thani.

Dr. Adnan Abu-Dayya, Executive Director and CEO of QMIC commented on this win “We are extremely honored by this new recognition and prestigious award. This is a clear testament to the progress QMIC has made in translating local large scale R&D into scalable platforms and solutions that support mega projects in Qatar and address the needs of different customer segments. We present this award to all of our passionate colleagues at QMIC and to our national partners and customers for helping us to become the nucleolus for a local technology-based industry with promising export potential.”

QMIC has dedicated its efforts since its inception in 2009 to develop Intelligent Mobility and IoT platforms and deliver all of its innovative services in the cloud. The first IoT platform and solution to be deployed by QMIC was Masarak back in 2013; a smart solution that offers a comprehensive mobility platform and integrated collection of services supporting areas of Intelligent Transport, Road Safety, and Smart Logistics. In addition to its analytics platform, proprietary technology, and GIS layers, Masarak has its own sophisticated multi-source data collection network consisting of: a large fixed sensing network using QMIC’s WaveTraf Bluetooth traffic road sensors, thousands of Telematics devices installed in fleet vehicles, and crowd-sourced data being contributed by thousands of iTraffic mobile application users.

QMIC followed Masarak success story with other IoT cloud-based achievements such as: Hawa’ak platform for environmental monitoring, and in 2016, QMIC released to market its cloud-based Labeeb IoT platform (the first such platform developed in the region). Having a locally built IoT platform like Labeeb is enabling Entrepreneurs, Startups, Enterprises, and Cities to easily develop and deploy IoT solutions for many verticals like Transport, environment, healthcare, manufacturing, and energy among others.

This is QMIC’s second win at the IT Business awards following last year’s pick as Smart Solution of the Year for QMIC’s Labeeb IoT platform. QMIC also won other local, regional, and international awards for its innovative Masarak’s traffic platform and solutions. QMIC has always aspired to improve and enable Qatar’s smart living through its local R&D-based amd market-focused innovations across various sectors like transportation, mobility and environment. This win will certainly drive QMIC’s aspirations even further towards realizing a smarter future in Qatar and beyond
